Fauna of Ujung Kulon National Park BANTENG (Bos javanicus)

Bull has a sturdy body, gigantic & strong with the front shoulder higher than the back of the body. On his head was a pair of horns. In a male bull shiny black horns, pointed & bowed toward the mid-anterior, whereas in the female bull horns smaller form. In the chest there gelambir beginning from the base of the foot to neck did not reach the throat area (Hoogerwerf, 1970). According to Hoogerwerf (1970) bull has smell & hearing are very sharp compared to the vision. Legakul & McNeely (1977) stated that the vision of a bull is not so sharp that the ability to distinguish the main enemies is contingent on the ability of its smell & hearing. Therefore, the wind direction is very important for the bull to study the environmental conditions. Bull's body color varies & can be used to distinguish the sexes (Legakul & McNeely, 1977). Bull male has a black body color, the more older black body color. Bull female has a body color reddish brown, the older the body color will be darker (dark brown). In both bull child male or female who have the same body color is brown, so difficult to distinguish gender. But the child's body color of both males & buffalo female lighter body color than adult female buffalo's body. Hoogerwerf (1970) stated also that the bull's body varies according to location. Bull in the area of West Java are generally more colorful than the black bull in the area of East Java that is more brown color. This is probably due to habitat & climatic conditions. BANTEN TOURISM
